Santa Barbara Wedding

The MAGIC that is this NYE Santa Barbara wedding will seriously always give me goosebumps! Could not be happier that these two reached out to me saying that they thought we’d be a perfect fit, they were SO dang right. Here’s the (most incredible and beautifully written) story of they met, written by Collene:

I blame Olivier Giroud.

To be perfectly fair, it is not entirely his fault that this entire escapade came to be, in fact there are a number of players in the grand scheme of things that got the ball rolling in the right direction and helped things fall perfectly into place, bringing us where we are today. I think “our story” is perfectly summarized as a series of events completely out of our hands that just kept bringing the two of us to a place where things just kept being better and better together.

First and foremost, I’d like to send an extra special thank you to the folks at J-Date. If it weren’t for their hard work in pairing up two of the people in our lives that we absolutely love the most, then perhaps we wouldn’t have shared a bag of late night gummy bears after our first Head and the Heart concert. And if those two friends hadn’t gone on to meet equally lovely people that we both love more than we could have imagined, then we wouldn’t have had a reason to reconnect at the San Diego Beerfest a few years later.

And if Mark hadn’t invited me over for Thanksgiving only a month after we’d been dating, and if grandpa hadn’t been still at the table when I walked in, and if his mom hadn’t opened one more bottle of wine or Mark’s sister not invited her now fiance for dinner as well, or if his Aunt Tammy hadn’t suggested we go for a swim and hadn’t invited me to Mexico the following day…

If I didn’t love tacos and tequila as much as I do, and if Danielle hadn’t been my wing man and if there hadn’t been pomegranate tequila, or if the bird hadn’t dropped the fish on the deck and if Julio hadn’t made such delicious margaritas…

Perhaps if Snoop Dogg hadn’t performed at Fluxx on a school night, and Holly hadn’t agreed to go, or if Ellie Goulding hadn’t been so magical at Coachella, or Mob Deep and Pinback so captivating at the Casbah, or Dierks Bentley such as fantastic first country concert, and John Legend just a touch too romantic for a date so early on…

If the late night sushi hadn’t have been so perfectly paired with the sake at Nobu, or if Cowboy star hadn’t allowed us in with sand on our feet from the day on the beach in Mexico, or if they had run out of blue cheese stuffed olives for their martinis at Seersucker or the beer can chicken and twice baked potatoes wasn’t such a success…

If the spontaneous Vegas weekend with Mark’s best friend from college hadn’t worked out, and if the Chargers hadn’t gone to Colorado for a playoff game and if Collene and Mark had actually made their regularly scheduled flight home, and if we couldn’t have gotten those last minute passes to hike the Grand Canyon, or one of us had chickened out of Scuba diving…

And what if we had both been satisfied with our jobs and New Zealand hadn’t had such an easy way to receive visas, or we hadn’t experienced the worst winter in 30 years or the road to the Remarkables had been better paved, what if the permits to Tibet hadn’t worked out, or Collene really and truly got so sick of Chinese food she went home early… or if the Hungarians ran out of wine or the English hadn’t made it for mulles frites, and what if Anthony Bordain had never discovered the ice cream shop that we had to visit twice in one day…

And if we hadn’t sucked it up and jumped in a hot air balloon or out of an airplane, or rode Swedish rollercoasters, if that couch hadn’t flown out of the back of the truck on the freeway or if Melanie’s apartment hadn’t needed occupancy for just a few months, if Alt-j had never been introduced and if Odin hadn’t come into the world, or our families hadn’t been able to do Thanksgiving together or roadtrips hadn’t been so great, and the singalongs not as fun or the dance parties at Ballarat with Pear of Pommes so fantastically 90’s, or we hadn’t been able to binge watch Game of Thrones, or made the best of an awful snow storm, or enjoyed the Denver Airport…

Or if we simply hadn’t enjoyed the times together that could have easily been tough. If we hadn’t made the best out of awkward situations, laughed at our own defeats or been able to move forward when it wasn’t lookin’ so pretty… or if we’d individually had had all the right answers and weren’t open to a new perspective…

But really, if Giroud hadn’t played for Arsenal that day, Collene may have gone home just a little bit sooner.
